Fashion Trends I love The Lot

As a lot of you know, The Lot is sort of my life. Its THE coolest new clothing branch since ever. The Lot opened a branch in Stellenbosch recently, and I got the chance to talk to the lovely owner.

The Lot, one of the biggest and most likable shops in Cape Town! How would you describe your clothing style?
Fresh and unique with a rock n roll edge. We constantly search for cool new designers and brands so we can stock those special pieces you wont find anywhere else. THE LOT is a contemporary SA fashion retailer that scours the globe to bring you the coolest fresh & vintage fashion, accessories & lifestyle products ?

Where do you get all your wonderful garments from? Local or international? We stock both local and international brands as well as a highly curated selection of up-and-coming designers.

Are there any specific trends that you would recommend for this summer?
Denim shorts are our must have item of the season especially those with studs, spikes and Aztec patches and pockets. Pair with a 90s inspired crop top or drop armhole tank & retro round shades.

When did the creation of this magnificent place start? Was it always a passion of yours to open a fashion store? We opened our first store in the extremely popular fashion hub of Kloof St, Gardens in 2008 after years of planning and product sourcing. Since then we have opened in Claremont (just outside Cavendish Square), Canal Walk and now Stellenbosch.

If you could compare your shop to a celeb, who would it be and why?
Rita Oras we love her bold & quirky style and the way she mixes casual and glam pieces.

When are your doors open during the week?
Our Stellenbosch store is currently open from 9am 6pm Monday to Saturday and 9am 3pm on Sundays

Fashion Trends Photography Portraits

For my photography project this term, our objective was plainly, portrait shots. About four or five posts ago, I have written of this, yet those images were the ones I took with my digital camera. These pictures were taken with my film camera. After development, I took my film to a camera shop that could put my pictures on a disk.  Thus, I share it with you :D

These images are more intimate, and it creates the feeling that you want to know more of the subject or what shes hiding. The shadows on my model were created with different objects such as metal structures, plastic structures, materials, lace tops, and a glass bowl.

The objective was of course to create shadows on my models face. It creates a feminine and soft atmosphere. Overall I love these images! Plus what makes this more difficult, is the fact that you only get to take the photo once, since its a film camera and all.

Fashion Trends Teabag Dress

I promised my sister Ill upload these images, and I probably shouldve uploaded this a month ago.

So here we go!

Our school hosted an eco-fashion show. The theme was classy, the management was great, and the name says it all. Of course I had to take part. We had to design and make clothing completely instructed out of eco-friendly materials. Basically materials that is reusable and recycled. Then we could walk in our designs, or we could get models to walk in them, and we had to answer questions based on eco and recycling.

I decided to make a dress that included tea bags as its main feature.

So this is what I did: The dress idea didnt work out so I made a skirt and a bustier like top. My primary idea for the skirt didn't work, because well, tea bags break quite quickly. I took some of my mothers old material and I sewed the tea bags onto the material. The tea bags change from white to dark brown, top to bottom.  The bustier was tricky. I made 5 corsets and each failed. So I took an old bra and pasted paper mache on the entire bra. Afterward, I covered the front with stickers that look like pearls.

I walked in this dress during the semi-fashion show that took place during the event. The part that I dreaded the most is when the judges asked us a few questions about living Eco-friendly and the environment.

In the end the evening was successful, the designs were brilliant, and its definitely something I would never forget <3

Fashion Trends Something Sunnie could work

Teashades: either you love it, or you still haven't heard of it, because there's nothing about this accessory that's not to love.

I've seen these sunglasses everywhere. On the internet, on my friends, in magazines, everywhere! I went into a shop that sells these beauties, and I asked the lady what these were called? Well, apparently its called John Lennons. How cool would it be if sunglasses were named after you? Now thats pretty insane. Id love calling these sunglasses Lennons, yet he wasnt the only icon to make these sunglasses famous. Im talking about Ozzy Osbourne, Mick Jagger, Liam Gallagher, etc.

These round shaped beauties are extremely different from the usual big eyed sunglasses we all may own. And of course, it comes in different shapes, sizes, frames and colours. Even though it can differ, the style still comes through in each pair. Its incredibly edgy (I think edgy is my favourite adjective) and it stands out from the rest of the sunglass family.

Since its a new season, with summer short at its feet, change can be good. In South Africa, summer means indulging in ice cream, crashing into the waves, being with a bunch of friends, and of course, tanning. Whilst doing these activities, rocking a pair of new sunnies may just be the cherry on top.

I think its quite obvious to realise what Im trying to say: GET YOURSELF A PAIR.

You will love it for sure <3

Fashion Trends What She Wears

There is only one rule in fashion. If it makes you feel awesome, wear it.           @Olivia_de_Waal

As I mentioned on my Facebook page, I've started a new project where I photograph different people that I think have a different and unique style. As my first post for What She Wears, I chose a girl that describes a neutral, care free style. Light hearted, not to mention light headed (literally) and a style thats fashionable, comfortable, and creates a fresh atmosphere.

Ladies, and gentlemen, introducing Leonie Alice Cooper.

She can create looks that are edgy, rugged and dark, to sweet, soft and simple. She prefers neutral colours, from whites and silvers to greys (being her favorite colour) and blacks, with an occasional pop of colour. She has a pretty mellow vibe, and it comes through on these pictures.

More about Leonie..

Her favorite designer is the Lebanese wonder, a man who creates miracles, Elie Saab.  She actually spoke an oral about the man! She shops at all of those little boutiques that nobody knows of. She dreams of being similar to Gisele Bundchen, or an indie rock star  but when reality strikes, all she wants to become is the next top fashion designer, or fashion magazine editor. One day, she wants to live on a comfortable, vintage, French style home, with a bohemian edge, on a farm near the ocean, in a country like Italy. White tees are her absolute fave. And if she could be on a reality TV show, it would be Keeping up with the Kardashians. Why? Because family is the one thing that they always put first.

And I'll be your memories..
