Fashion Trends What She Wears

There is only one rule in fashion. If it makes you feel awesome, wear it.           @Olivia_de_Waal

As I mentioned on my Facebook page, I've started a new project where I photograph different people that I think have a different and unique style. As my first post for What She Wears, I chose a girl that describes a neutral, care free style. Light hearted, not to mention light headed (literally) and a style thats fashionable, comfortable, and creates a fresh atmosphere.

Ladies, and gentlemen, introducing Leonie Alice Cooper.

She can create looks that are edgy, rugged and dark, to sweet, soft and simple. She prefers neutral colours, from whites and silvers to greys (being her favorite colour) and blacks, with an occasional pop of colour. She has a pretty mellow vibe, and it comes through on these pictures.

More about Leonie..

Her favorite designer is the Lebanese wonder, a man who creates miracles, Elie Saab.  She actually spoke an oral about the man! She shops at all of those little boutiques that nobody knows of. She dreams of being similar to Gisele Bundchen, or an indie rock star  but when reality strikes, all she wants to become is the next top fashion designer, or fashion magazine editor. One day, she wants to live on a comfortable, vintage, French style home, with a bohemian edge, on a farm near the ocean, in a country like Italy. White tees are her absolute fave. And if she could be on a reality TV show, it would be Keeping up with the Kardashians. Why? Because family is the one thing that they always put first.

And I'll be your memories..

Fashion Trends Oh! You pretty things.

The best things in life are the unexpected especially when they make great photos.

I shot the following pictures with Ashley de Lange as my model and Natasha Smit as my assistant, to create these crazy pictures. The objective was to shoot portrait shots. Dressed and styled in an upper-class manner, Ashley posed dramatically and outrageously whilst being thrown with different household materials from flying strawberries, streamers, a bag of flour and buckets of water. It was incredibly fun!

I take photography as a subject at school, and our semesters project was to photograph portrait shots, with film camera. I couldn't decide between two ideas, so I did both. I had too little film on my camera to take the amount of pictures I wanted to take, thus the digital camera came in handy, and voila!

Id like to share these amazing images with you, as they classify with fashion as well as art.

Fashion Trends Bang Bang

This outfit made me think of the legendary song, Bang Bang, by 60s Nancy Sinatra. If you've seen Killbill you may be familiar with the song. Theres even a few remixes of it. Its that cool.

Anyway, back to the outfit.

Black tights and a printed sleeveless chiffon top from Courage and Candy, black heels from San Marina, golden ear accessories from Sass Diva and a sparkly golden sequins clutch from Forever New. I had so much fun shooting this outfit, even if we had limited time! We shot these pictures in the middle of a street, and every time a car passed we got the strangest looks from the drivers.

Lets start from the top. The golden ear jewelry is a must have. Sass Diva brought introduced fake high piercing earring accessories a while back. These accessories come in a wide variety of different colours, shapes and sizes. As someone whos afraid of getting an extra piercing, I think these items are genius!  They go incredibly well with this outfit, contributing to the whole rugged look.

The sleeveless chiffon top looks way different on a hanger than on a person. I wouldn't even have chosen this if it wasn't for Courage and Candys owner! This made me think of the outfits on lookbook.nu (visit it now if have never heard of it before, and while youre there, drop by my profile and say hiii lookbook.nu/moniqueleroux), which are quite unique.  I mostly like the print, only an extra contribution to the looks edginess.

The tights are different than normal ones, because of the material-use. Its much more comfortable than the usual tights. The use of the material gives the tights a sheer glow, faintly. Visually, it makes the legs look smaller, a definite pro! I finished this look off with a cute golden clutch and my very own shiny black heels.

Fashion Trends Well HELLO

Tribal print shorts, dip dyed shorts, shorts with studs, shorts with crosses, flag shorts This summer is bound to be a colourful one.

Tribal print shorts are part of the new Aztec, geometric print thats been seen a lot lately. Consisting of vibrant and bright colours, it warms an outfit and gives an outfit a lively atmosphere. Its super fun, and pretty cool. Studded shorts and shorts with crosses contribute to the edgy rocker look we sometimes come across. Owning a pair of these would not be a disappointment, plus its a real showstopper. Dip Dyed shorts, much like my previous post about dip dyeing your hair, are just as trendy right now. It's almost like the best of both worlds, in a way.

Whats really awesome about these shorts, is that you can take old shorts and redo them in one of these styles :D But thats obvious.. If youre not in the mood to reinvent an old pair of shorts, I know of a little store thats gracing us with its presence by the 1st of November. A store that represents the style of our youth and a store that never EVER disappoints.

THE LOT is coming to Stellenbosch! YES!!! On the 1stof November, theyre opening their doors to all of Stellenbosch. Situated in the same street as Courage and Candy, Eva Boutique and Wakaberry, THE LOT, or in other words, my dream closet, decided to be awesome by joining our little community.
At THE LOT you will find many different garments that would blow your mind, including a variety of different shorts as well as flag related shorts and leather ones. Yeah, its that cool. So mark your calendar, put a reminder on your cell phone, and remember: THE LOT opens the 1st of November, be there!

Fashion Trends 'Dye'-ing to be different?

As the vacation ends, another term begins. This only means that the December vacation is getting closer and closer!

And December means summer: The sweet and succulent summer that we all yearn for.

December is the time to celebrate; its a time to do something new. For all we know, this may even be the end of the world! Learn to surf, get that shimmering tan, and make an appointment at the hairdresser theres a new trend in town.

Dip Dye.

Since the summer vacation is the longest one we have, its the perfect time to try this trend. Its so vibrant and edgy, and sort of creative. As a person who's afraid of dying hair, I would even dip dye my hair for a holiday or so. You can go way out with a colour far from your natural hair colour like purple, green or pink!

Be bold, and be daring.
Be different.

Here's a little song I really enjoy by Rita Ora ft Tinie Tempah, R.I.P. Rita Ora has an amazing style, so looking at her for a little advice wouldn't hurt.
Enjoy!
